Life is Run by Hormones

There are approximately 50 hormones in the human body. Hormones regulate everything from digestion, to the immune system, and even mental clarity. A natural fluctuation in levels is to be expected. Changes can be caused by a variety of factors such as medication, health, injury, and stress. Imbalances in any of the hormones can disrupt daily life and mental clarity.

What are hormones and why are they important?

Hormones are produced by the endocrine system and regulate bodily processes. Digestion, sexual function, fetal development, even sleep cycles are all controlled by hormones. Hormones are the messengers between organs and cells. Without hormones, the body could not function.

What are symptoms of hormonal imbalance?

Hormonal imbalances can be caused by a multitude of factors and have an equal number of symptoms. Irregular periods can be caused by stress or an imbalance of estrogen and progesterone. The decline of sex drive could be loss of interest or menopause. The list goes on and on. For every symptom, there can be a multitude of explanations. Additional symptoms can include: fatigue, digestive issues, sleep problems, excessive acne, mood swings, rapid weight gain or loss, changes in appetite, migraines, decline of sex drive, and changes in the vaginal environment.

How do hormones affect the mind?

Excess progesterone can cause extreme fatigue. Drops in estrogen levels often affect the way neurotransmitters function, resulting in moodiness and brain fog. Too much androgen increases oils in the skin and can cause acne. Chronic acne can increase irritability, derail sleep patterns, and raise cortisol levels in the blood. The effects of hormone imbalance are rarely limited to one body function. Though science has not been able to find a direct link between hormones and the mind. Nonetheless, there are still many instances where hormonal changes have led to mental changes.

Ways to improve?

Every person is different so what may be normal for one person may not be normal for another. Rapid weight gain could be caused by birth control in one person may be a symptom of thyroid issues in another. If something feels off or out of the norm, go to the doctor regardless if others are experiencing the same thing. The sooner medical attention is sought out, the sooner rebalance can be restored. Striving to maintain a healthy balance of diet and exercise can go a long way in maintaining balanced hormonal levels.

Hormone regulation is key

Hormones regulate daily life. Sleep, digestion, and energy are all the result of hormones carrying messages between cells and organs. Any imbalance can quickly derail daily patterns and throw mental clarity into a tailspin. Finding a rebalance is essential for body healthy and mental clarity.
