How Do Hormones Function?

Hormones direct most of the body’s basic functions. They function as the body’s communication system, coordinating process from digestion to growth, and immune function to libido. Even if the hormones are only slightly out of sync, an imbalance can have a huge impact on general health. Typically, when a person’s hormone levels fluctuate some form of replacement therapy is recommended. BHRT is one type of hormone therapy and presents a natural way to rebalance hormones.

What are bioidentical hormones?

Biomedical hormones are synthetic hormones created in a laboratory. These hormones are manufactured from plant estrogens which chemically identical to the estrogen hormones produced in the human body. As well as estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are made from plants and used in hormone treatment. Bioidentical hormones are available in several forms including:

  • Injections
  • Patches
  • Pills
  • Gel
  • Creams

Are biomedical hormones safe?

Some advocates of BHRT claim that bioidentical hormones are more beneficial than conventional hormones are considered natural. Medical experts believe that the risks of using BHRT are similar to the risks of using conventional hormone replacement therapy. There currently is no evidence to suggest that BHRT is more effective than conventional HRT.

Is BHRT suitable for you

BHRT can be used to treat men and women whose hormone levels are imbalanced. This type of therapy is used most often to alleviate symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. However, BHRT can be used to ease symptoms of thyroid and adrenal disorders, insulin resistance, osteoporosis, and fibromyalgia.

  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • Mood swings
  • Poor concentration
  • Loss of libido
  • Insomnia
  • Weight gain

Additionally, BHRT may also help to reduce the risk of tooth loss, diabetes, and cataracts. Hormone replacement therapy may also help maintain the skin’s elasticity and improve skin thickness and hydration.

BHRT and cancer treatment

BHRT is also beneficial for cancer survivors who have undergone treatment which has affected estrogen hormone levels. BHRT is often effective for improving general health and can also help relieve symptoms such as reduced libido, insomnia, incontinence, and migraines.

Side effects and risks of BHRT
